Got My Hur Did

As many of you know I like to dye my hair, a lot. So I recently bought a box of burgundy hair dye from Target and was disappointed. The color wasn't as noticeable as I wanted it to be even though I don't like it to be super noticeable. That's when Auntie La mentioned Henna. So I looked into it and bought the burgundy dye from The Henna Guys. At first I was super nervous to do this because everything I read said it stained everything and anything, I was also nervous about the intensity of the color.

Package of the Henna dye.
So first things first, I mixed the dye to a cake mix like consistency and I did this about an hour ahead of time because they said it needs time to rest. Then I had to cover the bathroom with plastic just in case I got dye somewhere I shouldn't have. The blogs I read about dying your hair said you should do it in the shower. So I covered the walls and put my full length mirror in the bathtub and sat down with the dye (I wish I had a picture of what the bathroom looked like because it was hilarious how much I covered it!).

Next I separated my hair into sections and started to apply this mud to my hair. The smell was awful, okay it wasn't that bad but definitely not something I want my hair to smell like. It took me about an hour to apply the dye to all of my hair and my gloves were too big and kept sliding up so I got lots of dye all over my hands.

After I applied all the dye the blogs said to wrap your head in plastic wrap because you have to wait at least 2 hours! The dye I bought came with a lovely shower cap so I put that on too, just for some extra protection.

I waited about 2 1/2 hours with the dye in my hair because I wasn't sure how intense the color would look against my dark hair. These first two pictures are right after I rinsed the dye out.

These pictures were taken about 4 days after I applied it. The blogs said the color settles after about 48 hours so you should wait to see if you like the color later.

These next couple of pictures were about a week later. I still couldn't get a picture that really showed the color but this is the best I could do, and now it is raining outside and I can't get a good picture with some good lighting!

So the reason it took me so long to post this was because I was trying to get the most perfect picture of my hair but I gave up. I'll post some later if I get some good ones.

I also wanted to say how much I loved the henna dye compared to box dye. First henna is all natural, it has no chemicals or other stuff that box dyes have. Second it naturally conditions your hair! I haven't had to use conditioner since I dyed it and I wake up with awesome hair. The bad things is that after I dyed it, it took a long time to get all the mud out of my hair. The smell also stayed in my hair for about a week, but it was less intense as the week went on. But I went to the gym the next day and I sweated and my hair smelled so bad! I also blotted my sweat with my sleeve and my sweat was orange! And the last thing I am frustrated about is that the blogs said it would take a couple of weeks to wash out all the dye/mud from your hair, its been two weeks and when I wash my hair it still has a slight orange tinge to it. Overall I would most definitely dye my hair again with henna. I think next time I will leave the dye in for 3 or more hours. I like the color but want it a little more intense.
